Description
For viewing EM maps, there are basically 2 options:
Client-side
E.g. some Java viewer (maybe OpenAstexViewer ) that can be used by web and Java clients. Needs to have all the data in hand. Could be a problem since maps are 8 - 15 MB. Not sure about the license issues of OpenAstexViewer?. Could download a binary map (set at a certain contour level) that is simply a 3D mask, but you wouldn't be able to adjust contour levels in the Viewer.
Server-side
Do the rendering server-side, where we have the data in hand. Send a rendered image to the client.
Question is: Can this be fast enough to give good interaction when the user wants to grab and rotate the molecule?
Advantages:
- Available to all clients.
- Don't have to wait for data to download. This would make it suitable for large tomograms.
