Bug: Right-hand information panel stuck to right hand edge of window, and is not expandable

Description
Right hand information panel is stuck of the right-hand edge, having zero horizontal size, and is not resizable. Restarting had no effect.
Eventually recovered by randomly selecting images. One of them caused the panel to spring back to the usual size, but unclear what was special about that image.

Are you sure it's "normal"? While an image is selected, the third panel is hidden and completely inaccessible, with no way of expanding it. Expanding appears to be completely random, and the reason for it eventually expanding after opening and selecting different datasets is rather non-obvious--it's not clear at all what the reasons for it to be hidden or shown are, and I think that behaviour is buggy.
Scott & I think this is normal behaviour - J-M, please can you confirm & close if that is correct.
