Description

Current limitations of array columns (#5632):

  • Can't be used as part of a select query.
  • The whole array is returned, it isn't possible to select specific elements within the array.

Use case (from CRS4):

In terms of tables, we would like to be able to retrieve array data on arbitrary indexes, which may or may not be contiguous.
Assume I'm storing arrays in the seventh column of table t: currently I can get the first element of the array in the first row by doing something like:

t.slice([7], [1]).columns[0].values[0][0]

but this loads the entire array. Perhaps adding an optional argument to methods like slice could allow to perform further selections into arrays.
