BUG: Disappearing plate map

Description
Found using OMERO.insight-5.0.0-alpha1-160-440e2b1-dirty-ice33-b186 on Windows 7 and Mac 10.8 on gretzky user-10 read-only-1.
Testing screens - maps and wells etc. - found curious issue of first mouse event anywhere after opening map makes map disappear.
This occurs only on the first occasion of opening the map - does not recur subsequent viewings.
Reproducible consistently in both Mac and Windows clients.
