The page linked is documentation for internal server developers. External developers looking for information on how to perform API queries will be confused (as Chris rightly pointed out). The page is not (entirely) wrong, just confusing.

A section of documentation that makes it clear "look here if you want to get your hands dirty in the server" would be useful.
