The dev_4_4 version of the SCN reader doesn't handle the new variant of the format. This is all working fine on develop.
Backporting of the changes is certainly possible, but the new code is making use of a number of develop-only features such as the coremetadata list, metadata list methods, etc. which will make this less straightforward. If we are planning to do another 4.4 release, this can certainly be considered for it.

Note that support is present in all 5.0 releases and 5.1 prereleases.
