Description (last modified by bpindelski)
Before image tiles can be extracted from the codestream, image planes (sets of components) have to be identified and validated - and any metadata extracted. There can be up to two image planes - the primary image plane and alpha image plane. The presence of the latter is indicated by a flag in the codestream and IFD header.
See paragraph 8.4 in Rec. ITU-T T.832 (01/2012).
