Because of the sharing Experimenter.email field could be not NULL

There are two positions here:

for the server (and especially sharing), having an email address is beneficial
for the schema, requiring an email will most likely lead people to put garbage in

In addition, some users may want to have their email in the server but not in exported files.

Follow the model discssion:
Only DisplayName is required. Modifying the e-mail at the model level will imply that other attributes e.g. LastName should be modified as well, and that's not really an option.

Propose workflow
If the e-mail is null, the user will not be notified.
Next time, if he/she logs in, he/she will see the objects shared with him/her.
The user may update his/her profile.
