Probably the best solution is to enable the "Save" button in the Insight main viewer when the Z-section changes.
Also, Split-view-figure dialog should also use the saved Z-section instead of the current Z-section, so you at least know what you're going to get from the script.

Once again re-opened, as proposed fix is too big chance of user experience. And I noticed it's not only a problem in Insight, you can't save Z/T selection in Web neither. There has to be some general discussion/mock-up about handling Z/T vs general rendering settings in both clients.
