Likely that Ice's ACM is causing some cases of ConnectionLostException (not necessarily those in 173).

r5424 : Re-disabling ACM. In a forum thread, I had thought I read that ACM & retries could be enabled for Glacier. But the documentation clearly says they should be turned off.

This matches what we've seen: under high-load Ice tries to conserve resources and closes the connection.
