Development of model would be easier with Java5.

Description
Various functionality like search and Hibernate mapping/validation would be easier with Java5. Further, it's not clear how well Java1.4 clients are going to work with the server. When possible, the move should be made to prevent further wasted effort (trying to make search, validation, etc. work with 1.4).
Currently blocked by #32 . Re-examine later in 2006 to see status of Mac development.

#32 is now low priority and will be solved by a solution which does not affect the server. Model can be moved to Java5.
