replaces ​http://trac.openmicroscopy.org.uk/shoola/ticket/1655

A color is selected e.g. green.
If the user uses the vertical slider to make the color darker and
go to the bottom. The color becomes black. Not sure we should do that
b/c no way to use the slider to go back to the original slider.
in that case green
