OMERO User introduction session 22/11/10

The session was delayed because of the restriction on the scientists on downloading the java VM, a question arising from the session for future introductory sessions would be possible if the Java VM could be allowed and included in the standard

In the initial discussion with Annika the immediate benefit she wanted with the use of OMERO was to be able to work away from the workstations. She had been using Softworks. Annika’s work currently involves the analysis of images and cell tracking over time. She was asking about the ability of the ROI tool to be able to track the cell movements through time. This part of her work was the most tedious for her as for each time frame she needed to adjust the ROI.

• Requirements on Figure publishing

During the session the particular features that Annika found useful in OMERO was the exporting of the pre-formatted figures. Annika commented that she would like the ability to label the figures with no information, where the current options for the user into to the choice of image name, dataset name, or tag name.

The ability to have the feature of changing the colour of the micron bar in the figures would also be valuable in this section. In the images Annika imported she had to close the figure and go back and change the colour of the micron bar.

Action - follow up to find out how she is getting on. (Week beginning the 10th Jan 2011)

UPDATE : 17th Jan Annika has not yet back need to confirm when back in the lab. The information required from Annika may suit as a trial scientist for filling in the gdoc document see ticket #3862.

UPDATE: I have spoken with Annika and her computer broke just before christmas so she has not been able to use OMERO much. Her computer is being repaired and so I will need to come back to her later on. She will also be away at a conference so the follow up will be several weeks away.
