Opening the import dialog with no context (E.g. from menu or when Project or Dataset not selected) should provide you with the options to select (or add) Project and then select (or add) Dataset (same functionality as current importer).

I would also suggest that the UI looks the same when a Project or Dataset IS selected as the import target. The only difference being that the current Project and Dataset are auto selected.

Move the following to separate tickets:

  • Switching between Datasets while adding images should allow images to be imported to different locations. This would need the destination to be shown in import queue. see #4495
  • If target Project/Dataset is shown in import queue, this could be updated when 'Folder as Dataset' is selected, making it clearer where each image will go. see #4496
