Description

"New dataset from folder's name" makes a dataset at the top level. It ignores the currently selected project in the drop-down.

Are you sure the project was selected before moving the folder to the import queue?
What I did:

  • Select a project
  • Select a folder and move to the import queue. Make the folder a dataset
  • The folder is turned into a dataset and attached to the Project
  • Images imported in the newly created dataset.

Could you indicate what you were doing?

Refresh tree view (nothing selected)
Right click, Import...
Choose project from the drop down
Tick "New Dataset from folder name"
Pick an image
Click > to move file to import list.
Click Import.

Dataset is at top level not in selected project.

If a project w/o dataset is selected, the problem can be reproduced.
