Bug: bird's eye doesn't update with rendering changes

Description
I'm not sure this is really a bug, but the bird's eye doesn't update with rendering changes. Possibly related to #5558.

I am using the thumbnail to create the bird eye (initial code)
I am going to use the lowest resolution so the view can be updated when settings changes.
