Description (last modified by szwells)
For the Virtual Appliance, user-facing support scripts such as the port-forwarding, connect, start-vm, and stop-vm scripts should be cross platform. They are currently written in Bash & should be rewritten in a cross-platform language, such as python, so that they can be used across the three main platforms {win|mac|lin} supported by OMERO.
Alternatively, a JVM scripting language, such as Jython or groovy, could be used to reduce the requirement for having python installed on the users machine as it could be argued that it is very likely that a JVM is installed on the majority of modern machine, and slightly less likely that Python is installed.
