This looks okay and the examples look fine and comprehensive. I've corrected some mark-up to tidy things up.

One question? In the first code snippet,

client client = new client(hostName, port);
ServiceFactoryPrx entry = client.createSession(userName, password);
// if you want to have the data transfer encrypted then you can 
// use the entry variable otherwise use the following 
client unsecureClient = client.createClient(false);

would omero.client client = ... be clearer? (Not sure what the surrounding code and imports look like.

colin: probably, and it certainly can't hurt to have the explicit omero.client. we do the same for many of the ice calls as well.
