OMERO.web currently uses Flot + pie chart plugin to display charts. As Javascript library usage in general is being evaluated (see #7095) it seems appropriate to evaluate that current offerings available as a way to display charts & related visualizations generated from tabular data in HIC.
The following initially look to be the best all round charting libraries:
- Flot
- (+) Currently used by OMERO.web
- (-) Requires a plugin for pie-chart functionality
- JQPlot
- (+) Allround good functionality
- (+) Looks good out-of-the-box
& there are various others:
- Sparklines
- (+) Small, fast & widely tested across browser platforms
- (-) limited functionality beyond sparklines.
- Google Charts Plugin
- (+) Decent, wide ranging functionality
- (-) Cannot download the google JSAPI, must link to the google hosted version, which means that our functionality would be dependent upon an external third party.
- jQuery Chart
- jQChart
