Is there any way to import these as signed images instead of unsigned? Our negative values are being lost. Thank you

Duplicate of #3284 and possibly #3256. We cannot obtain the file in question due to non-disclosure policies, but based upon private emails with the original reporter, the file in question is a 32-bit floating point TIFF. The pixel values are reported to be correct, but the rendering is reported to be incorrect (negative values are displayed very brightly when they should be dim).
File requested via QA on 2012-01-18.
