When the line plot tool is used on IE8 various missing icons are loaded:

2012-04-06 09:56:31,102 WARNI [                 omeroweb.feedback.views] (proc.27069) handler404:161 Not Found: /webgateway/img_detail/img/openhand.cur
2012-04-06 10:13:50,635 WARNI [                 omeroweb.feedback.views] (proc.27071) handler404:161 Not Found: /webgateway/img_detail/img/closedhand.cur
...

This could be the reason why #8496 errors are thrown up.

The following missing icons are also showing up on the mini-viewer in the right hand preview panel on IE8:

The only options I can think of are:

Make the path absolute (but that makes using different root urls break this again)
Not use custom cursors on IE using conditional statements

I'm going for the latter, but speak up if you think differently
