The file-type filter has no effect. No files are in bold and files from any of the image formats can be selected and uploaded regardless of the filter setting.

Duplicate see #8840. We discussed that previously, this is actually an issue with the JFileChooser itself. We do not have to rewrite the Swing component itself.
