Spent a bit more time trying to Google for a fix or related issues, use the IE8 dev tools, look at the code etc - all to no avail. Found loads of "IE8 screen black" bugs via google, so I assume it's something along those lines, most of which seemed to be fixed via various IE8 preference tricks or re-installing. Since we've only seen it on our VM and it's not been reported from outside, I'm not going to spend more time on this unless the priority increases.

Observed again by @bpindelski. Putting to the IE story. Double checked with @bpindelski on my windows XP IE8 laptop (gretzky). This is NOT a virtual box specific bug - it happens on the win XP laptop as well. Bumping up the priority.

Don't know what more I can do on this - unless anyone else wants to have a go?

Petr: thoughts on severity and reproducibility?
comment:17 Changed 10 years ago by jamoore
- Owner changed from wmoore to pwalczysko
Maybe passing to someone else is better than pushing to "Unscheduled"?
comment:18 Changed 10 years ago by wmoore
I didn't pass to Petr because I don't think he knows how to fix it. I already know that Petr can reproduce it easily and the priority of the ticket is still Major (as set by Petr). So if anyone is going to address this, it'll be me or Ola, but it beats me!
comment:19 Changed 10 years ago by pwalczysko
Reproducibility is guaranteed. Severity - IE8 specific, goes away after browser refresh immediately. We can put down the severity to minor.

Unfixable ?
comment:23 Changed 10 years ago by jamoore
Will: no worries. Passed to Petr so I know he'll see it. Petr: exactly. If minor, easy workaround, and no known fix, close? Will? Ola?

Additional information:
This problem is IE8 specific (IE 8 on Windows XP on Laptop, and on VM have the problem, Win 7 IE9 laptop is fine).
Firefox (Win XP) and Safari are fine.
The menus which cause the black screen problem are also
the Download as OME-TIFF and Download as Jpeg menu. (both items do the same)
In order to cause the bug, choose the Download to OME-Tiff item and cancel the appearing window.
Go to the menu next time.
Mouseover the OME-TIFF item.
The screen goes black.
Analogously for Save as Jpeg item.
Also the appearance of the bug in the Dowload menu goes away when the browser is refreshed.
The bug is back when the abovementioned sequence is repeated though.
Go back to the menu item driving from the top.
The screen goes black. If the bug is still not there, repeat the above or try another menu item. The bug goes away if you refresh the browser.
Then again repeatable when repeating the above.
