BUG: Larger jpegs do not display

Imported 2kx2k, 4kx4k and 8kx8k on Gretzky in Insight build from Develop.
The import went through fairly quickly (as indicated in importer window).
The thumbnails were nevertheless black (more than 3 hours after import).
When the viewer was opened, the 2kx2k.jpeg opened correctly.
Tried to open 4kx4k.jpeg and 8kx8k.jpeg - the viewer started opening, but never finished.
This situation persisted more than 3 hours after import.
Compare with the situation on Howe, where the same images take less than 5 minutes to import and succesfuly open in full viewer. (see screenshots)
Web client:
When using web client instead of Insight, the result is the same.
Fiji (using LOCI)
4kx4k.jpeg and 8kx8k.jpeg display correctly and quickly.
