saving rendering settings

Description
the method saveCurrentSettings gets slower and slower
on same image
Viewing a file, switch color model, save, then turn back color model, save. The second time, it takes x4 to save the settings.
This means that the (temporary) strategy to view file like gatan files will no longer work
