Description
The OpenZoom? (http://www.openzoom.org) file format, which is based on Deep Zoom from Microsoft, should be investigated as the potential storage framework for whatever compressed data types we decide to use.

After investigation there are not a whole lot of bells and whistles provided. The basic structure is:
- An XML file outlined in the attached diagram
- A folder structure of format <TileLevel>/<TileOffsetX>_<TileOffsetY>.<Format>
Notably, Deep Zoom also provides provision for tile overlap which we probably don't want to support.
Maximum zoom level calculation is performed by calculating log2(max(Image.Width, Image.Height)).
Some notable discussion points and concerns:
- Tile sizes are constrained to base 2
- Formats are open ended but I've seen only JPEG and PNG

We're going to be using a subtle derivative of this format, boxed by TIFF (like Aperio SVS) to keep both file counts small and generic access. Closing.
